The tri-fold brochure was thick, its colors vibrant and eye-catching. The bold imprint of the mascot and quotes from satisfied students practically jumped off the page. Shelby smirked as she reached for her coffee mug and eagerly opened the brochure.

Shelby's cheeks flushed with embarrassment at the thought of having to return to school. She was so close— on the cusp of earning her degree and pursuing her dream of owning a bar, but then she was tempted by the money, jewelry, shopping sprees, and exotic travels— trappings of a life with Lucas. She became nothing more than a trophy girlfriend, thirsty for attention.

Having anything she wanted or needed at her fingertips made going to class a bore, even when Lucas encouraged her to finish, saying he'd put up the money for her bar if she did. She intended to register for fall classes, but then there was the trip to Italy. The following spring was full of events and travel, dates Lucas had to be away and he always seemed so disappointed if she couldn't accompany him. Then he would hint at maybe finding someone else, someone who would be available to move around the world with him. Which was a problem.
