I started a fic. Not recently…
Back in August, something flew through my brain and I started a new story and then kinda lost the thread and forgot about it. This week, I got a message from a reader at the Fanfiction archive hoping that I would update the story soon. Since I’m on vacation, I decided to dive into it and have been updating it. I’ll post it up over here as well.
As always, fan fiction is free.
When aspiring songwriter Zoe Chapman joins JC Chasez's exclusive mountain retreat, she's looking for musical mentorship, not to fall for the man behind the legend. But as their late-night studio sessions blur the lines between professional and personal, they discover their hearts might be writing a very different song.

Prologue
"You...are so fucking kidding me..."
Zoe's eyes grew large and round as she turned her car into a long, winding driveway. Gravel crunched beneath her tires as she slowly made her way towards the three wide doors. A three- car garage, she guessed.
As she pulled to a stop and turned off the engine, the silence that followed was broken by the soft chirping of crickets and the occasional distant call of an owl. Zoe stepped out of her car, hiking a full backpack onto her shoulder. and took a deep breath, sucking in clean, forest air. She'd never been to this part of the state and marveled at the world just a few hours outside of Los Angeles.
Beyond the garage, the house loomed, its dark wood siding and stone accents imposing. Large floor to ceiling windows were unobscured, giving her a sneak peek into the decor and layout of the home- the expansive and marbled chef's kitchen, the stone fireplace and deep-seated couch in what appeared to be a living room, the covered porch with Adirondack chairs lining the perimeter.
Zoe approached the front door, taking in her surroundings as she went. She still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that she had lucked into a coveted spot in a Song Writers in Residence Retreat led by JC Chasez. The thought of staying in this grand, luxurious home for the next month was exciting.
Spending the next month working on her music day in and day out alongside one of her favorite musicians filled her with a sense of anticipation that made her hands tremble if she thought too hard about it. As she reached out to ring the doorbell, a sudden flutter in her stomach stopped her momentarily.
She took another deep breath, pressed the button, and waited.
